Waterspouts usually appear in late summer and early fall and are a rare occurrence in Latvia. They tend to appear when the water is warm and the air is chilly.

Even though waterspouts are weak in Latvia, swimmers should avoid going towards one, and they can still topple boats and other water vehicles.
