Latvia returns home empty-handed

Take note – story published 7 years ago

Latvia's Olympic mission in Brazil ended August 21 with the country's team of athletes unfortunately not managing to win a single medal.

However, as the athletes packed their bags and prepared to head home, there was time to reflect on some creditable performances and several near-misses including fourth-placed finishers in women's weightlifting and heptathlon, plus a fifth-placed finish in the men's kayak.

And by comment consent the Latvian team looked particularly elegant at the opening parade, so while podium places were not secured, at least Latvia's finest looked marvellous as they competed.

Latvia's Olympic Committee offered its thanks to the Brazilian organizers, congratulations to the competing athletes and looked forward to the next Olympic games in Tokyo, Japan in 2020.

At least in four years' time we can be sure of one thing - we will win at least as many medals there as we did here!
