Dukurs brothers dominate European skeleton championships

Latvia's Martins Dukurs and Tomass Dukurs finished in overall first and second place in the Skeleton World Cup stage at the Winterberg track in Germany on January 14, which also served as this year's European Championships.

Tomass finished 0.62 seconds behind his brother, while Russia’s Alexander Tretiakov finished in third place, 0.67 seconds behind Martins.

With the win, Martins Dukurs has moved into first place in the Skeleton World Cup standings with 811 points, followed by South Korea's Yun Sung-Bin with 793 points and Germany's Christopher Grotheer with 737 points.

This was the 8th triumph in the European Championships for Dukurs, and seventh podium finish for Tomass.

On January 15, Latvia's four man bob team led by Oskars Kibermanis finished in eighth position on the same track. After a good first run a podium finish seemed a possibility but mistakes on the second run saw that chance disappear.
