In Liverpool, Briedis - who is a police officer when not patrolling the squared circle - outclassed local opponent Simon Vallily with the referee stepping in to end the fight toward the end of the third round.
The victory should be an eye-opener for UK fight fans and should line up a WBC world title match against Liverpool's own WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew, who successfully defended his title on the same bill.

Briedis was in outstanding shape for the fight against Vallily, who was himself unbeaten coming into the fight, and the authority with which he dominated the ring posted notice that his is the name to watch in the Cruiserweight division in coming months.
Briedis already holds the IBA world belt in the Cruiserweight division but the WBC title is generally regarded as more prestigious and now looks well within his grasp.
In the aftermath of his victory Briedis took to Twitter to thank all his supporters for their backing.
