Take note – story published 7 years ago

Latvia's Lielvarde airbase on Thursday demonstrated its ability to host F-15 Eagle fighters, achieving certification of an advanced braking system for any of the planes that happen to drop in.

A tweet by Latvia's National Armed Forces (NBS) includes a brief video clip of an F-15 testing out special braking facilities at the base that allow it to come to a standstill in seconds on landing

.Certificatioon included not just the equipment but all the technicians necessary to operate it with a US Air Force F-15 piloted by Major Brett "Dutch" Vanderpass landing in the all-important test, reported National Armed Forces news portal Sargs.lv.

It was the first time an F-15 has landed at Lielvarde, which more commonly hosts transport aircraft and Black Hawk helicopters.
