"We hope that international and domestic attention created by the movie will improve awareness of Riga United FC and Latvian football, as well as encouraging new players and supporters to join the club," the team's co-founder and youth team coach, Englishman Justin Walley, told LSM.
Formed in 2007 as an informal club for foreigners living in Latvia, the club quickly expanded and now plays in the second-tier of Latvia's football league as well as running youth and women's teams and operating a football training academy for children.
The documentary ‘R.U. Ready?’, directed by filmmaker Stefanos Panagidis charts the history of the club and some of its players including airBaltic 'player pilot' Robin Janssen and top Italian TV football pundit Palmeri Tancredi signing for the club on the pitch at the legendary San Siro Stadium in Italy.
