Public broadcaster joins ‘most-loved’ brand list

For the first time since the launch of Latvia’s Top Most-loved Trademarks list ten years ago, several public broadcasting media channels have earned high marks among the fastest-growing brands in the land.

Latvian Radio’s Channel One (LR1) garnered a top distinction, recognized this year as leading the category of fastest-growing top-loved trademarks in the country.  On the actual list LR1 ranked 196th.

Jānis Siksnis, chief of LR accepted the honor at the awards ceremony Thursday, saying it was “both surprising and expected.”

“Latvian Radio and the public broadcasting media generally have proven that during the past year they can be relied upon in the information sphere, not to bombard with quantity of news and information, but to talk about what people need to hear, what’s important to them in the form of a conversation... This is truly a great thing to be recognized for, a real prize.”

Siksnis promised that in the year leading up to LR’s 90th anniversary, the integrated media channels of Latvia’s public broadcasting system will keep up their growth toward the top of the list.

Also on this year’s list were Latvian Television’s Channel One (LTV1) ranked 112th, Russian-language Channel Seven (LTV7) at 164th, and newly-launched youth-oriented public broadcasting project Channel Five (Pieci.lv) in 342nd place.

Latvia’s combined news portal LSM.lv, filtering together and enriching the content of the public radio and television channels, was also listed for the first time among this year’s most-beloved brands, coming in at 343rd.

Organized by creative agency DDB together with business magazine Kapitāls, market research firm GfK, and social media portal Draugiem.lv, the Most-loved Trademarks 2014 ranked altogether more than 350 corporate brand names according to a rigorous survey designed to measure audience attitudes toward well-known business logos and the identities behind them.
