Photos: Dismantling the last Soviet nuclear silos in Latvia

The buildings will be dismantled and ground into concrete chips. The Demontaza.lv company says the project, worth close to €200,000, will take it six months to complete.

The base, code-named Dvina R12, is one of the five underground nuclear missile launch facilities, of which there were twelve in Latvia, said Mārtiņš Mālnieks, head of Demontaza.lv.

"In principle, it's a grandiose ten-story building underground, separated into several levels and built from very durable concrete," said Mālnieks.
