This is the last installment of LSM's English-subtitled series of documentary films entitled Latvian Code and selected in a contest held by Latvian Public Television (LTV). The last winner to be featured is Agnese Laizāne's film Detective Mārtiņš (Latvian - Detektīvs Mārtiņš) that shows a senior private investigator who has dedicated his life to helping people find someone they've lost.

Detective Mārtiņš. Documentary. Latvia, 2015.

Director: Agnese Laizāne

Mārtiņš, even though he's already old and could spend his days in retirement, gives his time and effort to locating missing people - people with whom his clients have lost touch, like relatives, contacts, friends, and sometimes even loved ones from the halcyon days of youth. Mārtiņš has helped find over 600 such lost people within a few years. The film relates several of Mārtiņš's stories - sisters who've found one another after 50 years, a young girl desperately trying to find her mother after adoption, and others. Learn what's it like to be a private investigator in this day and age, and what drives the senior from Jelgava to dedicate himself to the life stories of others - without any reimbursement, it must be added.
