According to the Belfast Telegraph newspaper the incident took place shortly before 9pm on April 16 in Coalisland when the two men aged in their thirties were set upon by a group of men.
Police Service of Northern Ireland inspector Neil Beck said: “The victims of this assault are both Latvian nationals and we are treating the incident as a hate crime," the paper reported.
Local Sinn Féin representative Linda Dillon said the Latvian community was "very welcome" and that “Those responsible for this attack are a disgrace."
Latvia's Ambassador to the UK said she welcomed the show of support.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.
