The Sentinel radars are used in short-range air defense systems and are able to detect low-flying targets, including helicopters.
Under the contract, Latvia will receive the AN/MPQ-64F1 Sentinel and their spare parts, as well as a training program, additional equipment and documentation.
The implementation of the agreement has to be completed by October 31, 2016. The radars will be supplied by Thales Raytheon Systems.
AN/MPQ-64F1 radar features an X-band phased array. Its search range is more than 75 kilometers.
The radar station is capable of operating within the scope of 360 degrees. It is capable of detecting, inter alia, helicopters, UAV systems and cruise missiles.
A press statement by the US Department of Defense stated the sum of the deal to be $22,732,500.
