The Latvian government has supported the implementation of several projects in Ukraine, BNS newswire discovered from the Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday. To ensure Latvia's support instruments, 150,000 euros have been allocated for implementing development cooperation projects in Ukraine.

The projects are related to promoting good governance, focus on fighting corruption, development of farming and the countryside, regional development, eurointegration and sharing of the EU experience. The projects were not supported earlier due to lack of funding.

The Latvian State Plant Protection Service (VAAD) project, for example, aims to support the Ukrainian veterinary service in development of normative acts and control procedures to protect Ukraine from spread of organisms harming potato harvests. The VAAD workgroup will prepare recommendations, while Ukrainian specialists will visit Latvia for training. The budget of the project is 22,420 euros.

A project by Providus NGO plans to increase capacity of Ukraine's NGOs and local administration in participation in planning city development and decision making. The budget of this project is 16,900 euros.

The government also supported the project by the Riga Graduate School of Law worth 16,580 euros, sharing Latvia's knowledge and practical experience in corruption prevention and promoting good governance and transparency.

The project includes lectures on fighting corruption, good governance and transparency, along with a visit to the Cabinet of Ministers, the parliament, the Road Traffic Safety Directorate, the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau and other places.

The government also supported continuing several development cooperation projects that were started in 2014.
