Jankovska said that many documents have been destroyed. For example, 42 books related to KGB activities were destroyed by the Police College, while other documents have been "given to the Security Police for unknown reasons".
She was quick to add that it doesn't mean there are attempts to conceal something, rather that the people destroying these documents don't know what they are. In the Police College the books weren't considered to be important KGB documents.
Jarinovska also said that in many court cases the cooperation fact with KGB is not admitted, despite that the documents testifying about the fact are authentic.
here is often much uncertainty in these cases, and that uncertainty is interpreted favorably for the person whose possible cooperation with the KGB is under scrutiny.
The committee for KGB document research was established more than a year ago, but didn't start any work as they couldn't hire staff due to the lack of funding.
It was established as Saeima decided that prior to publishing KGB documents they should be researched. The documents will be available after May 2018.
