On its part the State Forestry Service delegated to the committee Riga Regional Forest Engineer Raimonds Fridvalds, the Rural Support Service summoned Greater Riga’s Regional Agricultural Board Control and Supervision Department Senior Inspector Mārtiņš Upmanis, the Latvian Hunters’ Association its own board chairman Haralds Barviks, and the Cooperation Council of the Agricultural Organizations named Jānis Šolks and the Latvian Forest Owners’ Society called on Juris Buškevics to keep mulling the options for stopping the boar threat from digging up Riga residents’ hopes for peaceful recreation with their pets in and around the town parks and vacant lots.
Head of the Environment Board Askolds Kļaviņš at the City Department of Housing and the Environment told newswire BNS there was no bylaw according to which the committee should work, but that a well thought out solution to the appearance of herds of urban boar in Riga’s many wooded neighborhoods would not be rushed.
The wild boar which now live inside municipal boundaries have clashed with dogs and their owners and even had to be subdued and evacuated from the very center of town, already garnering the Riga boar a minor frolic in the international news limelight.
Residents have been sharing evidence of the hungry urban swine herds' rummaging through gardens, medians and parklands around town and even more so in the suburbs of Riga with the Twitter profile of whomever has assumed the identity of the Riga Boar since the end of May:
