Bank of Latvia to open one stop office for detecting counterfeit money

Take note – story published 7 years ago

On July 1 a currency monitoring center opens at Latvijas Banka where experts will examine suspect banknotes and coins of all currencies, the Bank of Latvia told the press Wednesday.

Companies and individuals that suspect they've been given counterfeit money should either turn to the nearest police station or hand the money in at one of the two Cashier's Offices of the Bank of Latvia.

Notes given to the police will be handed to the Bank of Latvia, which will examine the money and reply to the submitter within a month.

The counterfeit money detection office will be unveiled after a merger between the National Analysis Centre and the Coin National Analysis Centre, previously under the control of the State Police.

The merger aims to ensure a timely detection of euro forgeries, a more efficient identification of suspected money, and ensuring international info exchange on the forgeries.
