PM, President agree to call a spade a spade

Take note – story published 8 years ago

Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma and President Raimonds Vejonis indulged in a bit of good-natured role reversal Wednesday in their first official meeting since Vejonis took up his position as head of state.

Instead of Vejonis reporting to Straujuma in his former role as Defense Minister, this time at the Blackheads House in Riga's Old Town it was Straujuma reporting to Vejonis in a good natured meeting that even included the presentation of an unusual gift.

Straujuma handed her new nominal boss a shovel, though the purpose was most likely to encourage his well-publicised green leanings rather than to suggest that the country is in such a state a lot of spadework is required or that he dig his own political grave.
