"From 13 to 15 October, the Latvia-Russia Border Demarcation Commission convened for its 29th meeting in Riga. The commission established that all practical work at the Latvia-Russia border has been completed," statement issued by the ministry said.
Along the total 283.6 km length of the Latvia-Russia border, 648 boundary markers have already been installed.
However, that's still not quite the end of the process as documents on the completion of demarcation must be prepared for submission to the governments of both countries, with mid-2017 earmarked as the date of submission.
How long it then takes the governments to sign the documents remains to be seen.
The next meeting of the Commission has been scheduled for December 2016 in Moscow. It began its work in 2009.
The announcement comes just a few days after the publication of a book running to 150 pages in English, Estonian, Latvian and Russian lauding the "great diversity of results reached and positive impact accomplished by all projects in the cross border regions of Estonia, Latvia and Russia."
