Rinkēvičs took part in the meetings of the Foreign Affairs Council and the General Affairs Council, which featured discussions on the developments in Syria as well as Iraq and Iran.
However, despite events in the Middle East dominating discussions, Rinkēvičs took the opportunity to remind his colleagues that the situation in eastern Ukraine remains far from satisfactory, a Foreign Ministry statement said.
"We believe that in parallel to the fight against the emerging challenges, the EU should remain focused on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, since this is a central issue for the entire European security infrastructure," Rinkēvičs said.
He added that Latvia will continue supporting the reform process implemented by the Ukrainian government which in turn must go ahead with reforms and fighting against corruption. He added that Latvia believes in "a continued strengthening and active use of the EU’s current support instruments and special support for Ukraine to put the legislative amendments into practice."
He also repeated his belief that implementation of the Minsk agreement was still possible.
