Speaking at a news conference today, Strīķe said that she arrived at this decision after lengthy reflection.
The would-be politician announced her decision to run for Riga mayor in the 2017 local elections. Bordans said he would also run in the election as one of the party’s candidates for Riga mayor.
Juris Jurass, the former head of the Corruption Prevention Bureau’s Intelligence Process Division, has also joined the New Conservative Party and will run in the local elections in Riga.
Jurass also voiced an intention to urge other former employees of the Corruption Prevention Bureau to follow in his footsteps and join the Bordans-led party.
Strīķe is well-known for her job at the Latvia's anti-graft watchdog, the Corruption Prevention Bureau. Her name frequently popped up during the heavy infighting at the bureau.
