The political group thinks Latvia’s government officials have been avoiding any critical remarks in setting a clear and strong state policy on how Europe should address the migration crisis. Instead they just pay lip service to the idea of solidarity amongst fellow member states.
“We are in absolute understanding of what the concept of ‘solidarity’ means. In 2008 the people of Latvia all on their own ‘in solidarity’ took on the weight of the financial crisis, keeping the banking sector stable and preventing the domino effect from ruining the Scandinavian banking system and thus the region’s economy as a whole.
For the last ten years Latvia has ‘in solidarity’ ensured the developed western European states with a qualified workforce, born, raised, schooled, cared for and treated in Latvia but contributing instead to these states’ economies.
Not to mention the threat to all of Europe’s security from terrorism, as various European security structures constantly warn that the masses of refugees flowing into Europe contain Islamic terrorists,” said RA Saeima faction leader Dainis Liepiņš.
Liepiņš is currently unable t take his seat in parliament while an investigation in ongoing into allegations he made an incorrect income declaration.
At the same time the RA believes Latvia must stay 'in solidarity' with Ukraine, which is located in proximity and has been pulled into a real war because the war directly affects Latvia’s security.
Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma has publicly stated that Latvia is against mandatory quotas for accepting refugees, calling rather for voluntary measures.
EU leaders are set to take a final decision on the pressing matter at a summit in June.
