Throughout Monday and Tuesday, all five parties which managed to win seats in the 12th Saeima will meet with the president and lay out their proposals.
As is usually the case, no comment is expected from Berzins himself until he has spoken with all parties. With the president due to fly to Milan for a working visit on Thursday, the name of his nominee is expected to emerge before he departs.
The three parties in the current ruling coalition: Unity, the National Alliance and the Greens and Farmers Union, have signalled they would prefer current Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma to continue in the job, but Berzins has the right to nominate whoever he deems fit.
Also staking a claim to the job of leading government is the opposition Harmony party which won more votes and more seats than any other party - but which is invariably kept from power by a coalition of smaller parties.
