The three foreign ministers of the Baltic states met United States secretary of state Rex Tillerson in Washington March 28.

Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics described it on Twitter as a "great meeting."

"Rinkēvičs expressed thanks for the current US involvement in the Baltic region giving the benefits of cooperation on defense and in the economic field. The Minister also informed that Latvia's investment in defense capabilities is developing and in 2018 will amount to 2% of gross domestic product," a release from the Foreign Ministry said.

Rinkēvičs urged the United States to cooperate in cyber security and strategic communications, including sending US experts to the NATO Strategic communications center of excellence in Riga.

The minister also "urged the United States to maintain a continuous presence in the Baltic region," the ministry said.

Estonia's Sven Mikser called the meeting "excellent".

Meanwhile Lithuania's Linas Linkevicius said the format of the Baltics presenting a united front was like the "good old days."
