Pētersone has been tasked by Finance Minister Dana Reizniece-Ozola to identify dishonest Revenue Service officers and to rotate the heads and deputy heads of four departments of the service. She revealed that there are more than 20 officials in total to be given new jobs.
An unnamed source has told Latvian Television that three department heads could be rotated to the Justice Ministry, while four more could move to the Interior Ministry.
In answering a question of how the new co-workers of the rotated employees will feel working together with suspected employees, Pētersone admitted that the tension of the upcoming rotation can be felt in the day-to-day work of the service but stressed that there's no evidence of wrongdoing on the part of the officials who'll be assigned other jobs.
In February Finance Minister Dana Reizniece-Ozola tasked the revenue service to review the work of high-level employees and offer suggestions on how to get rid of unscrupulous officials.
The Finance Minister tasked Revenue Service head Ināra Pētersone to ensure that by May 1 the service's employees strongly suspected--one figure that has emerged is 173 officials--of official misconduct are fired.
Rotation in VID structures is also to be instated, with high-level employees to be rotated once every five years.
