6,000 turn out on first day of voting

More than 6,000 votes were cast during the first day of advance voting in parliamentary elections Wednesday ahead of the main election day on Saturday October 4, the Central Electoral Committee (CVK) reported.

"On the first day of voting at 61 polling stations, 6,730 voters voted," the CVK said in a sttaement.

Of that total 3,908 votes were cast in Riga, 1,275 in Vidzeme, 600 in Zemgale, and 573 in Kurzeme and 374 in Latgale.

Advance voting for those unable to attend polls on Saturday continues Thursday from 0900-1200 and Friday from 1000-1600.

On the main polling day, all stations will be open 0700-2000.
