The filmmakers back then didn’t just fix the natural environment of the time along the Gauja rivershore, but also caught on film historical persons – like writer Karlis Skalbe in Vecpiebalga and composer Jazeps Vitols at his summer home in Gaujiena, in addition to various cultural and economic phenomena of the time – the logging rafters, summer holidaymakers in Sigulda, the Ligatne paper pulp mill and the Freedom Battles parade in Cesis.
80 years later SKUBA film studios has made a new documentary, and its makers have followed in the footsteps of the original authors who traveled along the Gauja river valley with their camera equipment in the 1930s. What is the current reality like now in Latvia? What’s changed, what hasn't?
This is the second of LSM's inaugural English-subtitled series featuring the five winners of Latvian Public Television’s (LTV) documentary film contest 'Latvian Code'.
