Passenger numbers up 6.3% at Rīga Airport

The Riga International Airport plans to serve a total of 5.3m flyers throughout 2016, and passenger numbers have grown 6.3% on year in H1 2016, reported LETA Thursday.

The airport's council chairman Juris Kanels said that the results of the first six months are better than in the previous year, suggesting that the annual results will also be better.

The number of passengers at the Riga airport increased 6.3% on year to 2.526m in the first half of 2016. While the number of flights increased to, and cargo turnover at the airport grew 9.8% to 9,845 tons.

In 2015, Riga airport provided services to 5.163m passengers, up 7.2% from 2014. The airport handled 68,078 flights and 18,863 tons of cargo.

Fully-owned by the Latvian state, Riga International Airport is the largest air traffic hub in the Baltic states.

According to the Firmas.lv business database, in 2015 the airport turned over €49,090,248, which is 10% more than in 2014. In 2015 the airport operated with a profit of €1,150,876.
