Norway’s Orkla gobbles up NP Foods

Take note – story published 9 years ago

Norwegian food producer Orkla purchased Latvian confectioner and bakery NP Foods Tuesday, potentially doubling its sales capacity in the Baltic region.

The sale of the holder of legacy brand names Laima and Staburadze, as well as drinks-maker Gutta and Lithuania’s Margiris only adds to Orkla’s already broad array of product logos. These include Latvia’s canned vegetable and sauce-maker Spilva, Estonia’s chocolate-company Kalev and other key brands in all three countries.

Orkla president Peters Ruzicka called the move “strategically important” to the company, which is the leading food distributor in the Nordic and Baltic regions, but also has interests in the aluminum, hydroelectric and real estate sectors.

Orkla posted turnover of €4.13bn 2013.

NP Foods had a turnover of €64.32m in 2013 compared to €58.77 in 2012. It posted earnings of €1.1m last year, compared to €304,584 in 2012.
