Making ends meet is becoming easier, say Latvians

Take note – story published 7 years ago

Latvians are becoming more optimistic about their ability to make ends meet, according to EU survey data. However 42.1% still say it's difficult or very difficult to cover their expenses.

Increasingly more households in Latvia are saying that they can cover their usual necessary expenses with some difficulty or fairly easily.

However the perception is divided among the lines of Latvia's regions.

The smallest proportion of people saying they cover their usual expenses with difficulty or with great difficulty was recorded in Riga and Kurzeme – 36 % and 38.4 %.

Compared to other Latvian regions, the largest share (7.8%) of the households having the most optimistic perception of own ability to pay for usual expenses – easily or very easily – was observed in Kurzeme.

However, more than a half of Zemgale and Latgale households (51.1 % and 50.6 %, respectively) said that they make ends meet with difficulty or with great difficulty. Only small part of the households living in these regions thought that they cover usual expenses easily or very easily (3.5% in Zemgale and 2.9% in Latgale).
