Impossible to recover money from 10-15% of child support debtors

It's impossible to recover money from 10% to 15% of child support debtors as they have no officially registered property, said Andris Spore of Latvia's Bailiffs Association on Latvian Radio March 9.

He said that bailiffs' knowledge about the debtors' properties are restricted to the databases.

This means that, for example, despite people owing money can be seen driving cars, bailiffs can only seize their assets if they are registered.

"We're no detective agency," he said.

Previously Spore said that the number of people owing child support is decreasing.

The news comes after Latvia introduced publishing child support debtors' names online and started taking away their driving licences.
