The State Revenue Service’s (VID) Customs Police have arrested a group of persons for dealing in 14.5 million contraband cigarettes and 239 liters of contraband vodka, VID informed the press Wednesday. Among the detained are two officers from the Customs Service and two from the Border Guard.

The contraband goods were being transported in large quantities in cargo vehicles through the border crossing customs checkpoint Terehova from Russia, prompting the launch of a criminal investigation this month.

After receiving information from the Security Police (DP), the group from the Customs and Border Guard services were arrested, in addition to one more suspect retained out of seven originally held and searched. All of them are now free on their own recognizance pending the criminal investigation about which the Criminal Police decline to comment further.
