US troops drop in for a «Bayonet Strike»

Take note – story published 7 years ago

US airborne troops on Monday put on a display of what they do.

A day after performing a similar thing in Estonia, members of the 173rd Airborne Brigade jumped from a plane and let gravity and parachutes do the rest.

US ambassador Nancy Bikoff Petitt and Defense Minister Raimonds Bergmanis were among the onlookers.

The jump was part of an exercise called "Bayonet Strike" involving 200 personnel, though thankfully the only cold steel on show came in the form of the C-17 plane from which the paratroopers leaped into the wide blue Baltic yonder.

The US embassy also released a video of the event. But don't expect any surprises: it is strictly a case of jump, float, land - in that order.
