Border Watch: Tug, landing craft and spy ship

Take note – story published 7 years ago

Latvia's National Armed Forces (NBS) reported their latest identifications of Russian naval vessels Thursday.

Via its Twitter feed, the NBS recorded the presence of a Goryn-class naval tug pulling a Dyugon-class amphibious landing boat, 7.5 nautical miles (14 kilometers) from Latvia's sea border.

The sightings are just the latest in a notable upsurge of Russian military activity throughout the Baltic Sea region and beyond in recent days with Moscow apparently going out of its way to flx its muscles at every opportunity.

On October 13 the NBS reported sighting an Alpinist-class intelligence-gathering ship named the Zhigulevsk 11 nautical miles (20 km) from the sea border..

Meanwhile, if all the excitement makes you consider a career in the military, you're in luck the Latvian armed forces are currently recruiting and that includes the navy, as the ad below shows!
