Ventspils achieves bulb-planting goal

Take note – story published 7 years ago

Mayor of the port city of Ventspils, Aivars Lembergs, declared himself delighted April 8 after a plan to plant a large number of flower bulbs in a short space of time, which he had championed, turned out as planned.

In a series of tweets, Lembergs praised the organization of the mass bulb-planting effort, which he claimed saw 7,756 snowdrop bulbs planted in 6 minutes and 28 seconds.

Indeed so delighted was Lembergs with the achievement, he even dressed up as a snowdrop as this picture gallery shows.

Ensuring that the bulb-planting was not fraudulent was Pravin Patel of Guinness World Records, a British limited company which certifies 'record attempts' fr publicity-seeking clients and awards its own certificates. Patel was accompanied by a team 30 "independent observers".

This is the record that was beaten.

In the past, Patel has rubber-stamped numerous comparable achievements such as World's Tallest Stack Of Pancakes, Most Straddle Jumps On A Trampoline In One MinuteWorld's Longest Running TV-Tie in Magazine, Most Magic Tricks Performed During a Skydive and other benchmarks.

According to the organization's website:

"We work with leading global brands and businesses to create bespoke record-breaking campaigns that engage your audience through unforgettable moments of sheer amazement and wonder, delivering bottom-line results. And our clients benefit from being placed at the heart of these precious moments, by being respected as truly world-class."

How much the municipality of Ventspils paid for the services of Guinness World Records has not yet been disclosed.
