Three for the Weekend: Photography weekend

Take note – story published 7 years ago

This weekend's things to do and see have all something to do with photography or cinema.

Art Nouveau cameras

The Riga Art Nouveau Museum is hosting an exhibition on Art Nouveau cameras from the early 20th century. Look at how the history of the camera has unfolded in early 20th-century Riga with a number of German-made cameras, as well as Petite, a portable camera designed for the ladies.

A night with Jarmusch

The Kino Bize movie house is on Saturday at 8 p.m. screening two of the latest movies by Jim Jarmusch, featuring Gimme Danger with Iggy Pop, as well as his latest feature, Paterson, over the quiet tranquil life of a poetic bus driver (or a bus driving poet) in New Jersey. The movies will be screened in English.

The legend of the Milk Creeper

While the dainty Bolderāja bookshop/bar has a small series of photos, titled, interestingly, 'Milk Creeper'. The photos document the demolished Rīga-Ērgļi railway, with 21 station photographed with disposable cameras that were later on submerged in milk for additional effects. Turns out that milk and photography have more in common than meets the eye. The place is open starting 5 p.m. each day except Mondays.

As always check with culturemap.lv for something else to do.
