Three for the Weekend: Chamber music, short films, more music

A short film festival, chamber music, as well as a concert by Grammy nominee and opera star Kristīne Opolais are on this weekend's things to do in Latvia.

Short films in Rīga

The 2ANNAS short film festival will run through October 2, screening a total of 57 short films from a selection of a whopping 2,170.

 

The festival will run through October 2 and includes not only film screenings divided into focus groups but also discos, stand-ups, spoken word performances and more.

Kristīne Opolais in Rēzekne

Grammy-nominated Kristīne Opolais will perform at Rēzekne's Gors concert hall on Sunday at 7 p.m. She'll be singing music by Tchaikovsky, Smetana, Dvorak, Giordano, Verdi, Puccini, Khachaturian, Korngold, and Richard Strauss.

Opolais is one of the most successful Latvian singers and is routinely praised in international media for her performances. 

Chamber music in Jūrmala

The Autumn Chamber Music Festival will start off with a performance by French quartet Quatuor Ebene at Jūrmala's Dzintari Concert Hall on Friday at 7 p.m.

The quartet, who are subjects of the acclaimed documentary 4 by Daniel Kutschinski, will be performing pieces by Ludwig van Beethoven and Claude Debussy.
