Three for the Weekend: A brand new era

LSM is rolling out a shorter, punchier version of the defunct weekend events guide, called Three for the Weekend. It features three things to do on the weekend in Latvia.

Danish comedy

From April 1 to April 3 the oh-so Splendid Palace movie theater in Rīga will be teeming with Danish comedy as five movies will be screened, most of them subtitled in English.

Of the movies with English subtitles, Klovn - The Movie (2010) will be screened April 1 at 6 p.m., Adam's Apples (2005) will be shown on April 2 at 6 p.m. and SUPERCLASICO (2011) will be on the screen on April 3 at 3 p.m.

Movie critic Daira Āboliņa praised Klovn as "Laughter therapy in Danish taste." It's not for children.

Latvian photography

The Latgale Culture and History Museum in Rēzekne opens a photo exhibit of Eduards Utāns on April 1 at 4 p.m.

Eduards Utāns has been working at the Rēzeknes Vēstis daily for 25 years now and has documented the city of Rēzekne and the life of its inhabitants in numerous photos.

The exhibit invites to look at people and traditional photo motifs in a new light. Open April 1 to May 2. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and closed on Sunday.

Sculptural Birds

The Jūrmala City Museum on Tirgoņu street 29 on April 1 opens the sculpture exhibit of Vija Dzintare, titled "Black bird, white bird", offering a retrospective on the 75 years she has spent under the sun.

The artist told Latvian Radio that the exhibit is dedicated to the contrast between white and black.

Entrance is free, and the artist will be present in the museum on April 3 from 12 to 16 p.m.

The exhibit is open from April 2 to April 24.
