Legendary choir conductor passes away

The legendary choir conductor Gido Kokars passed away at the age of 95 on March 10, reported Latvian Radio. 

Gido was born on August 17, 1921. 

According to LETA archives, Kokars is a recipient of the Order of the Three Stars. He has been the chief conductor at several Nationwide Song and Dance Festivals, and was an honorary professor at the Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music.

His brother Imants was an accomplished conductor as well.

Latvia's Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis took to Twitter to offer his condolences.

"I express my deepest condolences to the relatives, colleagues and admirers of Gido Kokars for the great choir conductor passing away," said Kučinskis.
