Kids’ film fest awards Latvia’s Oscar nominee

Director Jānis Nords’ coming-of-age drama “Mother, I Love You” won three prizes at the Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People in Athens, Greece Thursday.

The movie took the festival’s Grand Prix and Best Screenplay awards as well as a distinction for child-actor Kristofers Konavalovs, who was recognized by the Greek Actors’ Guild as Best Actor for his performance.

“Mother, I Love You” is being promoted by the state National Film Center as a nominee for the Oscar awards after earning prizes at more than 15 international film festivals around the world, including the Grand Prix at the 17th Kristiansand International Children’s Film Festival in Norway. It is currently in distribution in the Netherlands, South Korea, Iceland, Sweden, Switzerland and India.

The dynamic family relationship thriller about 13-year old Raimonds and his mom is also nominated in five categories for the national film award “Lielais Kristaps”.
