In the play, Hermanis and Baryshnikov lead the viewers into an imaginary landscape of Brodsky's complex, lyrical and punchy play of words. Brodsky/Baryshnikov will reveal the world of the poet in Brodsky's native Russian with text and movement.
Baryshnikov's performances are popular internationally and in Latvia, which he toured last year with a performance of A Letter to a Man and the utterly sold-out Brodsky/Baryshnikov in the year before.
Brodsky/Baryshnikov caused a sensation in Latvia's art world with tickets reportedly changing hands for up to €1,000 on the night of the premiere.
The Latvian parliament recently discussed granting citizenship to Baryshnikov, a US citizen born in Riga under Soviet occupation.
"Riga still serves as a place where I find artistic inspiration" said Baryshnikov, before expressing his willingness to accept citizenship in an application to the Saeima.
