Artist Ieva Blūma has been living in Denmark for 18 years already - her family is there and she works there. Now she has brought the black-and-white work cycle The Journey Between Dreams and Reality to the Putti gallery in Rīga, Latvian Television reported Monday.

The art gallery Putti will host the exhibition until November 21. It's located on Mārstaļu street 16, Rīga.

The exhibition was inspired by things from the artist's life and her meeting and interview with the legendary actress and photographer Jessica Lange. Blūma met Lange this year in Barcelona in Lange's photo exhibition Unseen. Blūma interviewed the photographer for the Danish Magasinet Kunst (Art Magazine).

"Jessica Lange has fascinated me as an actress since my adolescence with her unique talent, bravery and variety. I have seen all of her movies, theater plays, and I have been ecstatic about her career renaissance in the last four years. Many don't realize that Lange is also a great photographer. It was truly extraordinary - to meet and to create this unique, intellectual and emotional talk about art together with this uniquely talented woman," said Blūma.

"When making paintings, I like to turn away from the real world, people, events and to go into the 'visual cosmos', to contact the Universe in which I feel a magical interplay that is expressed by creating paintings in my visual imagination and the journey between the conscious and the unconscious. My painting process is also instinctive, intensive, 'here and now', though entering a sort of a meditative state at the same time. In the last few years I have went through a period in which the built-up founding of life falls to pieces and I have to participate in fights, finding myself in the remains, and then you have to be born again, to build a castle and to light up a light in the darkness, showing a new road, as bright and exciting as possible," said the artist.

The exhibition shows a black-and-white collection of pictures from 2015, along with two original lithographs created in the legendary Paris workshop Clot, Bramsens and George that are part of the earlier collection of the artist and have become her classics.

Latvia-born Ieva Blūma has been living in Denmark for 18 years. During this time she has had personal exhibitions in Copenhagen, Rome, New York, Rīga, London, and Stockholm. Her works can be found in private collections and company collections across the world. The list time her works could be seen in Latvia was in a personal exhibition at Agija Šūna's gallery in 2010.
