In January the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) will begin filming its six-part serial adaptation of Lev Tolstoy’s historic novel “War and Peace”, using locations in Latvia as well as Lithuania and Russia to set the scene as authentically as possible, the UK’s public media group announced Sunday.

The series, adapted for television by screenwriter Andrew Davies and directed by Tom Harper, will star actors Paul Dano, Lily James and James Norton in the main roles of Pierre Bezukhov, Natasha Rostova and Prince Andrei Bolkonsky, respectively.

"War and Peace" is being produced by BBC Cymru Wales Drama, in partnership with The Weinstein Company and BBC Worldwide/Lookout Point. Filming will begin in January 2015 in Russia, Lithuania and Latvia.

Charlotte Moore, Controller at BBC One, said that “War and Peace will be a major event drama on BBC One and it is only fitting that Tolstoy’s epic masterpiece has attracted such a fine cast of actors to Andrew Davies’ stunning scripts.”
