The Olaine History and Art Museum welcomed visitors with local musicians' performances, as well as a model of how Olaine looked in 1915 during the first world war.
Museum director Ārija Spuņģe said that the museum opened its doors from 2 p.m. She said the museum has been participating since 2006 and that mostly visitors are attracted by lectures and creative workshops.
While lectures on railroad history in Latvia could be heard at the Jelgava Railway Museum where people were invited to explore and touch train parts. Visitors were especially delighted by stories of Latvia's railroads before the second world war.
This year set a record for the number of museums participating. When the event first started in 2015, a mere 54 museums took part while this year the figure is 150.
The number of people flocking to Latvia's museums during the event has been about 200,000 since 2007. That's about a tenth of Latvia's population.
LETA reported Sunday that 16,393 attended the Art Museum Riga Bourse, while 11,875 went to the freshly renovated National Art Museum. Meanwhile 6,295 went to the Arsenal art gallery and 6,543 attended the Latvian Museum of Decorative Arts and Design.
